FAQs Accommodation & Meals
How do I apply for housing?
There is no need to apply for housing. Housing is included in the participation fee and is arranged automatically for all ISUWU participants.
Accommodation is arranged in a student residence hall off-campus (single room in shared private apartment). Should you prefer to book your own accommodation please inform the ISUWU program manager via isuwu@wu.ac.at until May 18, 2020 at the latest. In this case the fee will be reduced by 495 EUR (the reduction can vary for 2020).
Where are the student residence halls located?
The student residence hall is only ten minutes walking distance from the campus. All residence halls provide WiFi. Students will be accommodated in single rooms in shared appartments with kitchenette. Please find further information on facilities, etc in the Accomodation section.
Do I stay in a single room?
All students will be housed in single rooms in shared apartments.
Can I choose a roommate for my shared apartment?
If you wish to share the apartment with a specific person, please inform the program manager by April 30, 2020.
Can I check-in earlier and/or check-out later? Or other special requests?
All special housing requests beyond the regular ISUWU service package (e.g. earlier check-in, later check-out, having guests in your accommodation etc.) are dealt between the participant and the housing office directly. Please inform the program management via e-mail and you will be put in touch with the OeAD housing agency.
How do I get the keys to my apartment/room?
A member of the OeAD housing staff (RA – Resident Assistant) will be present in the residence halls on the respective arrival day(s) to hand over the room keys. If you arrive early in the morning, late in the evening or sometime at night we cannot guarantee the RA´s availability, however we will try to make an arrangement with your roommates or other ISUWU participants.
You will receive an email stating your RA’s name and door number before the start of the program. There is no direct way to contact the RA. However you will be asked to fill in an arrival form (google form link in the ISUWU Pre-arrival Guide you will receive in June), which the RA will receive to know your approximate arrival time at the dormitory.
Will there be a contact person/an ISU WU assistant present in the dorms when I arrive?
On the official arrival day(s), ISUWU assistants will be there to welcome you from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. They will be sitting at the welcome and info desk in the community room indicated on posters we will hang up at each dorm´s main doors. Please visit them during these hours. You will receive an envelope containing the most important information.
Will there be a pick-up service from the airport?
No, there will be no pick-up service from the airport to the dorms. However there are many ways to get from the airport to your dorm. Please find detailed instructions in your ISUWU Pre-Arrival Guide all participants will receive in May.
All participants will indicate their arrival times in the Google Docs “Arrival Times” form you will receive as part of your ISUWU Pre-Arrival Guide in May. You may use this information to connect with other persons — for example via the Facebook groups we will create for you (links are also in the ISUWU Pre-Arrival Guide) — who arrive at the airport at the same time.
Public Transport
The connections on Austria’s public transportation lines are highly reliable and will make for an easy trip, which is estimated to take about 60-80 minutes. Vienna’s public transportation system can be easily navigated through Wiener Linien (our public transportation company for all metros, trams and buses; not for domestic or international trains though). A detailed timetable is posted at each stop; you can also get live updates via the app "WienMobil" for your mobile phone. Please do not forget to buy a ticket for your first day. ISUWU will provide you with a ticket for the whole time of the program from day 1 of the program on.
CAT
As an alternative to public transport, you can also travel by the Vienna City Airport Train (CAT), which arrives at “Wien Mitte/Landstraße” in only 16 min where you can change to the subway lines U3 and U4. From there you can take public transport to your designated destination. Please don't forget to buy your ticket.
CAB/TAXI
Though the public transportation system is very reliable in Vienna, taking a cab from the airport to the residence hall is also an option and costs approximately € 33-50. Participants who would like to take a cab are recommended to book one in advance because prices are lower than hiring a taxi driver onsite.
