• Your chosen region and destination will affect the overall cost of your stay abroad.

• Generally, studying abroad tends to be more expensive in overseas regions compared to Europe. However, costs can vary significantly within regions, such as between Northern and Southern Europe or North and South America.

• Additionally, the location of the partner university can impact expenses. Host institutions situated in larger cities or metropolitan areas typically have higher costs of living.

• Tip: The exchange reports of former outgoing students provide guidance and give an estimate of costs involved. The reports are available for bachelor's students and master's students.

The list below shows cost factors that usually arise during a stay abroad (without claim to completeness):

• Travel expenses

• Accommodation (dormitory, shared apartment, private accommodation, etc.)

• Study supplies (books, course materials, etc.)

• Cultural and social activities

• General living expenses

• If applicable: health insurance and additional insurances

• If applicable: costs for visas and office visits

Note: For some host countries, a certain bank balance must be presented when applying for a visa. This is necessary to prove that the stay abroad is financially feasible for you. You will receive more information from the partner university and from our exchange coordinators after you have been nominated for an exchange spot.

Erasmus+ grants

• If you receive an Erasmus+ grant for your semester abroad, you may apply for additional funding. Currently, individuals with fewer opportunities can apply for the Top-Up Individual Support. Please note that proof will be requested.

• Individuals with given status and significant additional costs can apply for Inclusion Support.

WU mobility grant special support

• The WU mobility grant special support is intended for anyone for whom a stay abroad in overseas represents a major financial challenge. The application for the special grant takes place in March and October and before the application periods for a semester abroad. This way, applicants know that they will receive special support before they are allocated for a semester abroad.

Federal study grant

• Students who receive federal study grants can receive them in addition to the Erasmus+ or WU mobility grant. However, this must be stated when applying for a mobility grant.

• The diverse range of academic topics ensures that there is something for every interest, including Sustainable Business, Marketing, and Innovation Management.

• Travel costs vary depending on the study location. While programs in Europe typically involve lower travel expenses, overseas ISPs may come with higher airfare costs.

• Tip: For selected ISPs abroad, there is a WU mobility grant available that covers most of the costs incurred (see point below).

The cost factors below usually arise in the context of an ISP abroad:

• Program Fee

• Travel expenses

• Accommodation

• Meals

• If applicable: Costs for visa and administrative procedures

• If applicable: Health insurance and additional insurance if applicable

Note: Depending on the program, the program fee may include accommodation and other costs. Usually, the program fee includes a cultural and social program.

WU mobility grant for International Short Programs (ISPs)

• If you have a special and verifiable need, you can apply for a WU mobility grant for International Short Programs (ISPs).

• The grants are only available for ISPs abroad that are organized by WU Vienna. Currently, this applies to the Short Programs in Buenos Aires, Porto, Bangkok, and Ontario.

• There are 5 WU mobility grants available per ISP abroad.

• The program fee is waived for mobility grant holders. Travel and accommodation costs can be subsidized.

• The application for the grant takes place during the regular application phase for ISPs.

• You can apply for Erasmus+ funding for self-organized internships abroad and receive the grant in addition to your internship salary.

• Depending on the host country, the monthly grant ranges between €620 and €670. View the exact and current grant amount for your host country here.

• Just like with a semester abroad, you can also apply for an Erasmus+ Individual Support or Inclusion Support when pursuing an internship abroad.

• Funding is available for internships abroad with a minimum duration of two months full-time. In addition, the internship must take place in one of the 27 EU member states or in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Northern Macedonia, Serbia, or Türkiye.

• Tip: Use the online form to apply for Erasmus+ internship funding. Make sure to submit all required documents at least four weeks before your internship starts – earlier submission is strongly recommended.
