• You may receive the federal study grant (German: Studienbeihilfe) for the duration of your stay abroad if you are fully admitted to study and examinations in Austria.

• Recipients can apply for an additional federal study grant for studies abroad (German: BAS = Beihilfe für ein Auslandsstudium) at the federal study grant authority. For more information, click here.

• BAS is paid out in addition to the federal study grant.

• The forms SB-AS1 and SB-AS2 are confirmed by Study Regulations & Credit Transfer (German: Studienrecht & Anerkennung).

Applications are reviewed by a committee composed of:

• the Vice-Rector for Academic Programs and Student Affairs

• the Dean for International Affairs

• a representative of the Austrian National Union of Students (ÖH WU)

Selection is based on:

• Quality of the application (written expression, strength of argumentation, self-assessment)

• Plausibility of financial need (likelihood that studying abroad would not be feasible without this grant)

• Academic performance, extracurricular engagement

You will be notified of the outcome (acceptance or rejection) via your WU email address before the application periods for a stay abroad.

Validity of approval

Approval is valid for two semesters:

• Approval granted in March applies to stays abroad in the summer semester or the winter semester of the following year.

• Approval granted in October applies to stays abroad in the winter semester of the following year and the summer semester of the year after.

• We will only award mobility grants to students who have not yet received mobility grants for ISPs abroad during their current study level.

• If you have applied for a stay abroad and received an exchange spot with Erasmus+ mobility grant, you are not eligible to receive the WU mobility grant special support. In this case, no payout can be made. 

• Students have no legal entitlement to a WU mobility grant special support.

• Students who do not complete their exchange semester successfully or who fail to submit the exchange report will have to pay back their grant.

Please note: At the time of application, all relevant documents and evidence must be complete and translated into German of English. Otherwise we cannot consider your application!
