Curriculum Science Track

Choose three areas of specialization out of fourteen. In each area of specialization take one field course.

Choose two Research&Policy Seminars accompanying selected areas of specialization.

Within the Elective, our curriculum offers you great flexibility to choose courses according to your interests. However, to qualify, courses must meet the following criteria:

• Related to Economics

• Master's level

• Final grade awarded (no workshop-type courses)

You can combine multiple courses to attain the required total of 6 ECTS.

Types of Eligible Courses:

1. Courses offered by WU's MSc Economics:

• All Field Courses and R&P Seminars of the MSc Economics are eligible as Elective.

• Some Mandatory Courses of the track that you are not enrolled in are eligible, too:

  • Applied Track: Economic Policy, Business Analytics, Political Economy, Public Economics, Topics in Macroeconomic Theory and Policy, and Topics in Applied Microeconomics

  • Sience Track: Advanced Macro I, Advanced Mirco II, Mathematics I/II, Probability and Statistics

Registration:

• Field Courses: via LPIS or email to exam.master@wu.ac.at

• R&P Seminars and mandatory courses: email to exam.master@wu.ac.at

• You will be registered by the examinations office if there are free spaces left after the end of LPIS registration.

2. Other Master's Level Courses at WU:

• Exchange semester:

    • Excess credits (if a course at the partner university has more credits than its equivalent in your curriculum).

• EU.ENGAGE: Online courses offered by our eight European partner universities (Manheim, Toulouse, Tilburg,..) within the EU.ENGAGE network

4. Extracurricular Service Learning at WU:

Service learning is a method of teaching and learning that combines service to the community with the acquisition of academic, methodological, and social skills. In service learning projects, students perform work that benefits the community. They learn how to draw connections between relevant theoretical content and what they learn in their practical work. Find the programs here under "2. Freiwilliges Engagement an der WU".

In their final semester students write a master's thesis that focuses on an economic research question analyzed using scientific methods. Students may choose their topic freely, subject to their advisor's consent.

Students present their findings and results at the Master's Thesis Conference - a special course in conference-style format including panels, referees and open discussions offered every semester.
