Prof. Jean-Philippe Van West, PhD

Jean-Philippe is professor international and European tax law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Senior Councel at PwC Belgium. He comes from Belgium. He holds a Master’s degree in Commercial Sciences from the Economic High School St-Aloysius (EHSAL) and a Master’s degree in Law from the Free University of Brussels (VUB). For both degrees, his graduation subject was Taxation. Later, Jean-Philippe completed an LL.M. in International Taxation at the WU. During his studies he has worked in the tax department of several multinationals.

After obtaining his LL.M degree he worked for 3 years in the tax department of one of the leading Belgian law firms. In September 2016, Jean-Philippe started his doctoral studies under the DIBT program at WU, which he successfully finished in December 2019 with a doctoral thesis on “The Anti-abuse Rule for Permanent Establishments Situated in Third States: A Legal Analysis of Article 29(8) OECD MC.
