Schritt 1: Voraussetzungen

In order to apply for the Master programs at WU you have to fulfill the requirements for application and to prove your aptitude for the program. In case one or more of the required proofs are missing, your application has to be rejected.

If you are interested in more than one program you must apply for all programs at the same time and order your preferences according to first choice, second choice, etc. Please note that individual program applications may require different information and documents.

It is not necessary to have completed your first degree program at the time of application, proof of completion of your program is not required until actual enrollment. Nevertheless the requirements listed below have to be documented within the uploaded documents.

Requirements for application:

1. Relevant Bachelor's program:

Completion of or enrollment in a relevant degree program at a recognized Austrian or foreign post-secondary institution. Prerequisites for the Master’s Program include:

  • The program must comprise at least 180 ECTS credits (corresponding to three academic years).

  • 30 ECTS credits have to be earned by passing exams in the field of business administration/economics and

  • 8 ECTS credits in mathematics/statistics/quantitative methods

2. Sufficient proficiency in English:

The proof of English competence has to be submitted at the time of application. In case the English language proof is not uploaded in the online tool, your application will be rejected.

  • TOEFL IBT / TOEFL IBT Home Edition (official or unofficial test report) (C1) – excluding TOEFL MyBest Scores

    • Tests taken before January 21, 2026: minimum score of 100

    • Tests taken on or after January 21, 2026: minimum score of 5

  • IELTS 7.0 [(Online) Academic Version] (official or unofficial test report) (C1)

  • Oxford Test of English Advanced (at least 150 points-C1): This exam is offered, among others, by WU Business Language Center

  • Cambridge English: CAE (Certificate in Advanced English-C1), CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English-C1)

  • An official confirmation (stamped and signed) of successful completion of

    • a qualification comparable to the A-Levels at a recognized secondary educational institution in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Ireland, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada, or

    • a three-year bachelor’s or doctoral program or a two-year master’s program at a recognized post-secondary educational institution in an EU/EEA country, Switzerland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada, which was conducted entirely in English as a full-time program.

  • English as a native or first language

  • C1-level certificate issued by a university language center, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
    The certificate has to prove that you took one or more tests to assess your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. These skills should correspond to level C1 or higher according to the CEFR.
    Course transcripts or confirmations about your overall language skills (e.g. DAAD-Certificates) or certain language courses will NOT be accepted as proof of your language skills. If you are not sure whether your language certificate fulfils these criteria, please submit one of the standardized tests mentioned above.

  • Graduates of WU’s Bachelor´s program in Business and Economics; Bachelor´s program in Business Law and Bachelor´s program in Business, Economics and Social Sciences already fulfill this requirement

3. Proof of aptitude (selection criteria):

In addition to the admission requirements, you also have to prove your aptitude for the Master’s program.

  • Proof of achievement potential:

    • GMAT Exam (10th Edition) score report from a test center/online. Please upload the official score report as a PDF file to your application. OR 

    • GMAT Exam (Focus Edition) score report. For verification purposes, please grant WU access to your score report by sending your score to the selected program on your mba.com account. Please consider the time required for GMAC to release your official scores (up to 20 business days). OR

    • Valid Graduate Record Examinations (GRE)

  • Curriculum vitae

  • Letter of recommendation from

    • a course instructor or the educational institution where one or more courses were completed, or

    • an evaluator of a thesis or the educational institution where the thesis was written, or

    • a supervisor from an employment relationship in which practical professional experience relevant to the Master’s program in Marketing was gained.

  • Motivation letter(max. 3200 characters; not required as an upload but to be prepared in advance and entered into the online application form)

*Submitting a GMAT result / GMAT Online result / GMAT Focus Edition result is obligatory for all applicants except WU students.

Instead of the GMAT Exam / GMAT Online Exam / GMAT Focus Edition Exam, WU students can submit the following:

  • The weighted grade point average (GPA) of all exams completed as part of the relevant study program instead of the GMAT/GMAT Online/GMAT Focus Edition. You can download your GPA confirmation as a PDF file. 

Taking the GMAT/GMAT Online/GMAT Focus Edition is also highly recommended for WU students.
