Dashboard, modules, SpeedGrader: These terms mean nothing to you and are new territory? Then this seminar is the ideal introduction to discover the possibilities of Canvas and prepare your course in the best possible way.

The learning platform Canvas offers a wide range of options for providing learning materials, communicating with students and accompanying the learning process. When creating a course, teachers have individual design options thanks to various settings and functionalities.

For optimal preparation of your course, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with the learning platform before the semester begins.

At the end of the seminar you will receive a compact checklist which you can use to check whether you have made the most important preparations for your course before the start of the semester.

What you will learn in this seminar...

  • Keep an overview of all your courses on the dashboard

  • Set appropriate notification settings to be notified by email about activities from your course

  • Define course settings and customize the visibility and order of menu items in the left side menu

  • Edit course home page to customize texts, banner image and buttons

  • Manually add people to and remove people from courses

  • Create group sets, create groups and use the group workspace

  • Use classic communication tools such as announcements, discussions and the inbox

  • Create modules and insert files, content pages, assignments and quizzes into modules to provide students with an optimal learning environment

  • Reuse materials in other courses and new semesters or share with colleagues

  • Create open assignments that students can use to upload files or enter texts

  • Create multiple-choice questions, cloze tasks, matching tasks and much more with quizzes to make learning interactive

  • Enter and publish assessments in the SpeedGrader or grade book

  • Organize course content from parallel courses via Blueprint courses
