Digitalization, Energy and Sustainability

Der Inhalt dieser Seite ist aktuell nur auf Englisch verfügbar.

Course I

This course explores how digitalization is transforming the energy sector and influencing environmental sustainability and climate action. Students will examine the role of digital technologies, such as emerging large datasets, artificial intelligence, smart energy systems, in reshaping energy production and consumption across electricity, transport, and industry. The students will gain knowledge on the evolving relationship between the digital economy, energy transitions, and sustainability, while gaining foundational knowledge for more advanced applications in energy and climate analysis.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Explain key links between energy transitions, climate change, and sustainable development.

  • Assess the role of digital technologies in transforming the energy sector.

  • Analyse economic, environmental, and policy aspects of energy systems.

  • Identify digital solutions for energy sustainability and climate action.

  • Gain knowledge through real-world cases and projects.

Course II:

This project-based course builds on foundational knowledge from “Digitalization, Energy, and Sustainability I” or equivalent, focusing on the application of advanced data science tools and digital technologies in energy and sustainability decision-making. Through real-world projects and expert seminars, students will learn how to apply methods such as large language models (LLMs), GIS analysis, machine learning, optimization/simulation, and predictive AI to analyse case studies related to energy transitions and assess their impacts on the economy, environment, and climate.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Evaluate data-driven methods for analysing problems in energy transitions.

  • Identify digital solutions that support climate action.

  • Gain in-depth expertise through project-based learning.

  • Learn from expert insights and real-world case studies on the course topics.
