Prater Museum - a journey through the history of the Prater

Prater

On June 17, the two Staff Council groups invited WU employees to visit the Prater Museum to a tour in German. Tucked away behind the Ferris wheel next to an autodrome, it offers a very detailed overview of the history of the Prater. This begins in the foyer with a huge hidden object picture (Wimmelbild) that invites visitors to look and marvel at the numerous creative details. The museum also turns out to be a real treasure trove in terms of the objects on display: a whipping man, Fortuna, and a marriage broker machine, supplemented by pictures and photographs of the Prater from days gone by. During the tour, we also learned a lot about the history of the families who shaped the Prater and the diverse historical uses of the area, such as for the 1873 World's Fair on what is now the WU Campus. After a very entertaining and interesting tour, we went to the restaurant “Englischer Reiter” for a nice conclusion of the evening with colleagues.
