As of today, the Summer School in Finance is planned to take place on campus at WU. Please be assured that the program will be held in accordance to the public health requirements and regulations implemented by WU.

The Summer School in Finance will take place from August 8 until August 12, 2022 and is organized by the Engelbert Dockner Foundation in cooperation with WU. A group of graduate students, with a strong background in financial economics will attend this intensive short program and work together on the topic of endowment management and long term investing.
Thanks to the generous funding from the Engelbert Dockner Foundation, there is no tuition fee.

Academic Program

The academic program will be taught by instructor Prof. Russ Wermers, Paul J. Cinquegrana '63 Endowed Chair in Finance and Director of the Center for Financial Policy at the Smith School of Business, University of Maryland. The program is about endowment management and long term investing and is designed for graduate students interested in the field. Good quantitative skills and/or practical experience would be helpful.

Content

  • Risk and reward in investment management; the efficient market hypothesis and its challengers; the CAPM, the FF and Carhart models

  • Canonical approaches to measuring asset manager skills

  • Using portfolio holdings to measure investment style, concentration, and performance

  • Stock-market anomalies, and how "quants" exploit them
