What happens if I have already completed an exchange semester, an internship abroad, or an International Short Program?

• Mobilities for which the experience abroad has already been confirmed will still count after the reform. You do not need to seek additional confirmation. If the mobility completed already meets the requirements of the new curriculum, the experience abroad is considered fulfilled.

Will the international experience be confirmed automatically?

• For students who complete a mobility from the winter semester of 2021/22 onwards, the confirmation of the IBW international experience will be automatically provided by the International Office.

• Students who have completed a mobility up to and including the summer semester of 2021 need to contact Study Regulations & Credit Transfer (german: Studienrecht & Anerkennung). Contact them under course.abroad@wu.ac.at for confirmation of the IBW international experience.

What's behind the module "International Experience"?

• The "International Experience" is a peculiarity of the major IBW. It comprises 20 ECTS credits and enables a simple credit transfer process for achievements gained in the context of an exchange program. The "International Experience" is considered completed once 20 ECTS credits have been recognized.

Which exchange programs can be accepted?

• The "International Experience" is not offered at WU Vienna, but can only be recognized. Credit transfer is possible in the context of an exchange semester, an internship abroad, an International Short Program or by attending (online) courses of WU's international networks (such as ENGAGE.EU).

What can I expect from WU's online offerings?

• In the spirit of Internationalization at home, you can earn ECTS credits through online exchange programs. WU is part of the ECOL initiative and a member of ENGAGE.EU, an alliance of leading European universities. Attending an online course allows you to gain learning experience in an international setting and strengthen intercultural competences. In addition to online courses, the ENAGE.EU offers other formats within which you can gain experience.

Can I use ECTS credits from multiple exchange programs for the "International Experience"?

• Yes, it is possible to combine ECTS credits from different exchange programs (e.g. 12 ECTS credits through an internship abroad + 8 ECTS credits through an International Short Program).

What do I have to pay attention to?

• It is important that the experience abroad is academically related to economics and/or business and that it is completed outside of Austria and outside of the student's home country. Exceptions are courses within the framework of the mentioned online offers.
