Program Management and Teaching & Learning Support
Projects
ERASMUS+ Strategic Partnership Projects
ENGAGE.EU
ENGAGE.EU is an alliance of leading European universities in business and social sciences that pools their expertise to provide students with international learning experiences and empower them to actively shape societal change as engaged citizens. The coordination of Academic Affairs and Programmes lies within PMTL and covers key initiatives, including:
The ENGAGE.EU Educational and Policy Framework establishes a central set of regulations that facilitates recognition, interoperability, and efficient processes, thereby increasing the value of the numerous shared educational offers within the alliance.
With the Joint Programme in Global Sustainability Management (GSM), ENGAGE.EU offers a unique one-year master-level programme, jointly delivered by all partner institutions, that equips students with essential sustainability competences indispensable in today’s business world.
The ENGAGE.EU Virtual Campus adds an immersive digital dimension to learning, strengthens digital skills and motivation among students, and opens up new opportunities for implementing authentic and interactive teaching and learning scenarios.
Fostering Learners' AI Readiness (FLAIR)
An international consortium with six partner universities has launched the FLAIR project with the aim of supporting teachers in conveying AI literacy as well as developing tools for students to acquire AI skills through self-learning.
FLAIR is co-funded by Erasmus+ and stands for Fostering Learners' AI Readiness. The project runs from the beginning of October 2024 to the end of November 2026 and is divided into three major work packages.
Digitization Projects
Future Learning Experience (FLEX)
Future Learning Experience (FLEX) aims to systematically test and evaluate innovative educational technologies and integrate them into teaching in a targeted manner. Physical and virtual teaching and learning spaces are linked in a meaningful way to develop contemporary, high-quality, and engaging learning formats. In addition, the FLEX Center offers teachers and students the opportunity to produce audiovisual media in a low-threshold, do-it-yourself mode.
Performance Agreement Projects
In the performance agreement period 2025–2027, the following projects were agreed between WU and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, for which PMTL is responsible or involved:
Digital examinations on campus
The aim of the project is to expand the structural and technical infrastructure—especially the power supply and Wi-Fi coverage in large classrooms—so that digital examinations can be conducted reliably using a bring-your-own-device approach.
Teachers will receive targeted support in planning and conducting digital examinations on campus.
Information and science literacy as a prerequisite for trust in science
In this project, online learning modules will be developed to help young people understand how scientifically proven knowledge is created and validated, and how they can assess the quality of knowledge themselves. The aim is to strengthen confidence in scientific research and teaching.
The modules are designed to be motivating and interactive and address key questions about information and science literacy, such as:
How is scientific knowledge created?
What is knowledge and what forms of knowledge are there?
What are cognitive biases and why is it important to be aware of them?
What is scientific pluralism?
Who actually creates knowledge?
The modules are based on the successful WU4Juniors program on the LearnPublic platform.
In order to make the modules particularly relevant and understandable for young people, questions and examples from their everyday lives are used for illustrative purposes. The modules are developed in collaboration with schools and tested in practice.
Innovative Audit
Development, implementation, and critical review of an innovative audit format for multiple-accredited and audited universities, with particular emphasis on the effectiveness of QM systems.
This project is being carried out in close cooperation with AQ Austria and in regular consultation with the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research.
Visibility and career relevance at university and system level
WU aims to exchange know-how and good practices with other universities in Austria (including the University of Graz, the University of Innsbruck, and the University of Salzburg) on the topic of “visibility and career relevance of teaching.” The process will involve comparing institutional solutions and drawing conclusions about the necessary framework conditions at the level of the Austrian system as a whole.
Strategy development and implementation of measures in the field of university didactics (science didactics) for the continuous and quality-oriented personnel development of teachers and young academics in teaching
In this project, a 'Teaching Skills Certificate' is being developed with the scope to document continuing professional development activities and other achievements in teaching. The aim is to provide teachers with a structured way to document and demonstrate their teaching skills as well as professional development in teaching and learning. At the same time, the certificate incentivizes the continuous targeted development of teaching skills.
A basic qualification is planned for Prae Docs to develop fundamental teaching skills. For more experienced teachers, a blended learning format which combines a short face-to-face program with the flexible work on a teaching project is being designed.
Completed Projects
Predictive Analytics Services for Study Success Management (PASSt)
2020 - 2023
The aim of the project is to develop, test and validate data-based planning and forecasting tools for optimizing teaching and study processes, in particular also study success and examination activity, and finally to make them available to all Austrian universities. Specifically, the model approach combines regressions, machine learning, and simulations to achieve the most accurate result possible.
The project PASSt is carried out by TU Wien and in cooperation with WU Wien and JKU Linz.
More Information
Leadership and Organisation for Teaching and Learning at European Universities (LOTUS)
2020 - 2022
The project aims to discuss and demonstrate the potential of various actors (ministries, university associations, student and staff unions, etc.) to support transformation and innovation in learning and teaching. LOTUS is led by EUA in partnership with a diverse consortium of higher education institutions, national rectors’ conferences, education ministries and organisations actively involved in learning and teaching across Europe.
LOTUS is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission, as an initiative to support the implementation of European Higher Education Area (EHEA) reforms.
Learning and teaching space in higher education (LTSHE)
2019 - 2022
This project developed a set of core principles that (higher) education institutions can use to help them design, construct and develop new learning and teaching (L&T) spaces. Increasingly, quality assurance (QA) in higher education is expanding to include a wide range of aspects of university life that includes buildings and the environment. The physical space of universities has often focused on the activities of L&T. This project provides a framework for (higher) education institutions to work within to ensure that they make best use of their resources.
SIGMA Global Virtual Courses
2015 - 2024
The Societal Impact & Global Management Alliance (SIGMA), which operated from 2015 to 2024, was a global network of top universities in management and business that aims to promote interdisciplinary and inter-university cooperation in education, research, and knowledge transfer.
With the goal to promote innovation in teaching, deal with up-to-date issues and enhance the collaboration of higher education institutions around the globe, top management and business schools of the SIGMA alliance jointly designed and developed the SIGMA Global Virtual Courses. Bringing together interdisciplinary expertise and viewpoints on societal challenges of our time united in an innovative course design creates a unique learning experience.
Members of the SIGMA Alliance: Copenhagen Business School (DK), ESADE Business School (ES), FGV/EBAPE (Escola Brasileira de Administração Pública e de Empresas) (BR), Hitotsubashi University (JP), Renmin University of China (CN), Singapore Management University (SG), Université Paris Dauphine (FR), Universität St. Gallen (HSG) (CH), Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien (AT)
