Prof. Dr. Matthias Petutschnig is Associate Professor for Business Taxation at the Institute for Accounting and Auditing, WU. Prior to that he was a post-doctoral researcher at the same Institute for six years (2013-2018). In 2018 he was awarded with the venia docendi for the field of Business Administration by WU.

His main research interests focus on the intersection of Accounting, Auditing and Taxation, especially business decision making regarding location, financing and legal form. The research methodology is mainly archival empirical research; however, depending on the research question, he also regularly employs analytical methods (such as Principal-Agent-Theory and Game Theory) and experimental methods. He is a regular speaker at international conferences and has published in refereed journals, academic books, as well as national and international practitioners’ journals. He is co-editor of the Journal of International Accounting, Auditing and Taxation responsible for Taxation.

Additionally to his main affiliation with the Institute of Accounting, Auditing and Taxation, he is a research fellow at WU’s research institute for Crypto Economics focusing on various economic, socio-economic and legal aspects of the blockchain technology.

He has held visiting positions at North Carolina State University (USA), Singapore Management University, and the University of Leipzig.
