Many planning tasks in Logistics could potentially be supported by tailored decision support software tools. It is a challenging task to design sound optimization models for real-world planning scenarios. In this talk, Günter Kiechle presents several examples and shows how optimization models and solution procedures should be implemented to provide customized decision support solutions in practice. The talk covers some pitfalls during modelling and algorithm design, as well as lessons learned derived from numerous applied research projects.
