International Women's Day

International Women's Day

International Women’s Day on March 8 honors the struggle for women’s rights – from voting rights and fair wages to shorter working hours. Today, it addresses discrimination and societal constraints worldwide and advocates for women’s and girls’ self-determination.

At WU, the day focuses on gender equality, celebrates pioneering women in economics, and recognizes the achievements of women today.

International Women's Day 2026

Workshop: How to be an Active Bystander – Taking Action Against Sexual Harassment and Violence (in German)

On the occasion of International Women's Day, we invite you to a workshop that creates space for reflection and strengthens confidence in dealing with sexual harassment and violence.

Date: March 17,  2026

Time: 9:00 am –11:00 am

Location: Campus WU, AD building, conference room 1

Sexual harassment and violence are often overlooked or downplayed. Yet it is crucial for those affected to be taken seriously and to receive support – without pressure or blame.

The workshop explains what constitutes sexual harassment and violence and which structural conditions – particularly in a university context – may foster such violations. The focus is on what supportive action can look like in concrete terms:

When is direct intervention helpful? How can support be offered after an incident? And how can an environment be created in which those affected can feel safe to confide in someone?

It becomes clear that every situation is unique and requires careful, responsible assessment. The workshop invites participants to consciously consider their own role and develop confidence in their actions and guidance for supportive behavior.

The workshop is open to all WU members – students as well as employees and managers in academic and administrative areas.

We look forward to your participation! The number of participants is limited, so please register with Sonja Lydtin at diversity-policy@wu.ac.at by March 12.

Nina Krebs, an independent trainer and specialist in the prevention of gender-based violence in the workplace, will lead the workshop. She has been working at the University of Vienna for over five years in the area of equal opportunities and diversity, where she developed an awareness campaign against gender-based violence in higher education and the workplace.
