Information Preference-Based Registration
Preference-Based Allocation Mechanism for Specialization Courses
LPIS registration for most courses opens once the official registration period starts. Places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
As Research & Policy Seminars play a particularly important role in helping students develop their research interests, we have introduced a preference-based allocation mechanism for those courses. This approach is designed to make the registration process smoother and the allocation of places more efficient.
To help you choose your specialization courses, we recommend checking the (updated) course information on our website for current students.
Based on your stated preferences, we will determine the allocation of places for the Research & Policy Seminars as well as the corresponding Field Courses.
Registration for any additional Field Courses will continue to take place via LPIS.
Stage 1 – Research & Policy Seminars and Corresponding Field Courses
Please indicate your preferences regarding Research & Policy Seminars by completing the form that will be provided to you.
Submission period:
You may distribute 100 points across all seminars offered.
Based on the points allocated, available places will be assigned to the students who allocated the highest number of points to each seminar.
We will then register students for both the Research & Policy Seminars and the corresponding Field Courses before LPIS registration begins.
In the event of ties (equal numbers of points), the following criteria will be used as tiebreakers, in this order:
A master’s thesis in a related field (topic already agreed upon with a supervisor)
Completion of the corresponding Field Course in a previous semester
Total number of ECTS completed
Grade point average
Registration Requirements:
We can only register you for the seminars required to complete your curriculum (maximum of two Research & Policy Seminars).
If you have already completed a Research & Policy Seminar in the previous semester, you can only be registered for one additional seminar.
If you wish to take a Research & Policy Seminar as an Elective, please see Stage 3 below.
Stage 2 – Additional Specialization Courses and Changes
LPIS registration for specialization courses opens at the start of the registration period.
At that time, you may:
Register for additional courses, or
De-register from courses if you have changed your plans.
Stage 3 – Specialization Courses as Electives
Field Courses that shall count towards the Elective can be registered for directly via LPIS.
To register for a Research & Policy Seminar as an Elective, please send an email to exam.master@wu.ac.at.
