Reminder: Deadline for FIDES entries 2021

As always at the end of the year, we would like to remind you to update your FIDES account. The deadline for various queries (intellectual capital statement, department evaluations, performance bonuses) falls on January 10, 2022. Please update your FIDES account in good time.

Info: Enter publications and lectures that have not yet been published

Publications that have not yet appeared may not be entered in FIDES. This also applies to lectures at scientific events that have not yet taken place. A journal article has then appeared and can be entered in FIDES if it has a valid (i.e. functioning) DOI number.

Entering “na” (non-applicable) in the mandatory DOI field is only permitted if a) it is a legal publication (there are no DOIs assigned here), or b) if it is a magazine that generally does not assign DOIs, which is sometimes still the case with German-language magazines. Only in these two cases "n.a." can be used as a placeholder for the DOI. But even these publications should only be entered in the database if they have been published.

New entries in FIDES are continuously monitored and we reserve the right to delete entries from FIDES without a valid DOI or publications that have not yet been published. Publications entered too early falsify evaluations such as the intellectual capital statement.

Info: Open Access status vs. DOI number

Sometimes there are misunderstandings regarding the open access availability of publications. The existence of a DOI number does not automatically mean that a publication is open access. The two publication properties have nothing to do with each other.

The DOI number is a kind of permanent link to a publication. However, this link is not necessarily available to the general public. Open Access texts are always marked as such - e.g. with the addition "Open Access" or the well-known orange symbol in the form of an open padlock.

If you are unsure whether or not it is an Open Access publication when entering a publication, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Note: E-mail address for FIDES questions and suggestions

At the Research Service Center, the FIDES-team can be contacted regarding FIDES via fides-support@wu.ac.at.

We would like to ask you to report any malfunctions, error messages or other problems that occur when working with FIDES (if possible, please add a screenshot). Every single error message is important for the improvement of FIDES and we thank you in advance for your help to improve FIDES steadily!

Goodbye and Thank you

Dear colleagues,

I am leaving WU by the end of 2021 and I want to say Goodbye to you all in this last newsletter. Thank you for your cooperation and the numerous ideas for the improvement of FIDES you've provided over the past years! Without the continuous commitment of all of you the best research documentation system wouldn't work, so thank you for your patience and reliability!

All the best for your future and best regards,

Daniela Weismeier-Sammer

P.s.: My colleague Johanna Mendes will certainly carry on to provide the usual FIDES support. Please send your questions and feedback as usual to fides-support@wu.ac.at.
