WU Vienna climbs five places

In the latest European Business School Ranking published by the renowned Financial Times, WU Vienna University of Economics and Business comes in at 41st place out of 100 listed institutions amid tough competition, up five places from last year. WU Vienna is the only Austrian university ranked and comes in sixth in the German-speaking region. The result underscores the international orientation of WU’s degree programs and the excellent career opportunities they open up for graduates.

The ranking is based on the results of five worldwide sub-rankings. WU participates in two of these rankings: In the Masters in Management ranking, WU achieved an outstanding result, placing 18th out of 100 programs listed worldwide. In the 2025 Executive MBA ranking, WU placed 46th among the world’s 100 best programs.

The more sub-rankings, the higher the weighting

Universities that are represented in several global sub-rankings have a correspondingly higher weighting in the European Business School Ranking. At 41st place, WU delivers a very strong performance and is the only Austrian university ranked. Out of the universities that are only represented in two sub-rankings, WU comes in second, close behind the UK’s Imperial Business School (39th overall).

A great success in the international context

As WU Rector Rupert Sausgruber points out, “It’s great to see that we can hold our own so well amid tough international competition. Sixth place in the German-speaking region is an excellent achievement. This strong result confirms the high quality of our programs and their relevance in the international job market. And we mustn’t forget that the European Business School Ranking includes a wide variety of universities operating under vastly different conditions – from privately funded institutions with generous budgets to public universities such as WU. Our strong ranking results are proof that it’s possible for a public university to achieve top results, even in the face of fierce international competition.”

WU excels in international experience

WU scored highly on the two sub-rankings, especially with regard to the diverse international experience opportunities it offers and the attractive salaries of WU graduates. Student mobility programs and international internships are key components in WU’s Executive MBA and Master’s in International Management programs. Graduates of these programs are highly successful in starting their careers and, on average, receive high salaries.

The top positions remain unchanged in the 2025 ranking: France’s Insead again tops the table, followed by HEC Paris and London Business School.
