Visiting research mobilities
In order to become a visiting researcher at one of WU’s partner institutions (or any other university), we advise the following steps:
Decide on a suitable university for your stay.
Find a Supervisor/Academic Advisor at your chosen university who is willing to host you by reaching out to them with information about yourself and your research project.
Take care of any formalities the host university requires from you.
WU employees only: Discuss your obligations and any extra formalities with WU’s Personnel Office.
Discuss potential funding opportunities with WU’s Research Service Center and the Doctoral Office (see Grants and Scholarships).
| If you are interested in a research stay at one of the ENGAGE.EU partner universities (see above), additional funding opportunities may be available for PhD students. Please contact the ENGAGE.EU Office (engage.eu@wu.ac.at). You can find more information on ENGAGE.EU’s website. |
For partner universities, the International Office may be able to offer some guidance and provide contact information to make it easier for you to organize a visiting research mobility. Please note, however, that we cannot offer any administrative support for such a mobility.
If you would like to schedule a consultation appointment, please contact the International Office at graduate.outgoing@wu.ac.at.
Funding might be available through the Research Service Center and the Doctoral Office (see Grants and Scholarships).
NEURUS - Network of European and US Regional and Urban Studies
NEURUS is a network offering a structured program with exchange opportunities and academic supervision at selected US universities.
Doctoral/PhD students working in relevant fields are eligible for a WU Mobility Grant from the International Office when selected for the NEURUS program.

ERASMUS+ funding for teaching mobilities
For WU employees, it is possible to apply for ERASMUS+ funding for teaching mobilities at most of WU’s ERASMUS partner universities, provided WU has the necessary agreement with the respective university. Please contact wuiogrants@wu.ac.at for details.
Other self-organized mobilities
Numerous opportunities for gaining international experience are available for doctoral-level students at WU. These include special grants and scholarships, invitations from partner universities, etc. Information about this will be forwarded and announced via WU's newsletter for doctoral students.
