Your personal data are kept confidential and processed in accordance with the provisions of the applicable data protection laws. In fulfillment of the regulations of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), in particular Article 13, we would like to inform you about the types of personal data that are processed in connection with submitting your question to WU’s researchers via the research portal and also about the purposes for which these data are processed.

WHICH TYPES OF PERSONAL DATA ARE PROCESSED?

Name, email address, the question you submitted, and the corresponding answer

FOR WHICH PURPOSES DO WE PROCESS YOUR DATA?

As part of its public relations activities, WU provides a research portal on its website that allows visitors to ask our researchers specific questions about business and economics-related topics. Your name and question will be published on the WU website to allow WU researchers to answer your question. Your data will only be used to answer your question. Your email address will be used to send you the answer by email, if requested.

WHAT IS THE LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING YOUR DATA?

- Art. 6 (1) item a of the GDPR – consent

If you consented to the processing of your personal data when submitting your question to WU’s researchers, we will only process your data for the purposes and within the scope specified in the declaration of consent.

You can withdraw your consent to any future data processing at any time. Once you withdraw your consent, we will no longer process your data for the purposes indicated above. However, any processing of the data which occurred before consent was withdrawn remains legal and unaffected.

DOES THE PROCESSING INVOLVE ANY AUTOMATED DECISION-MAKING (INCLUDING PROFILING)?

The processing of the personal data does not involve any automated decision-making.

ARE YOU OBLIGATED TO PROVIDE YOUR PERSONAL DATA?

No, but without the personal data named above our researchers cannot process your question and provide you with an answer.

TO WHICH OTHER PARTIES DO WE PASS ON YOUR DATA?

We will not pass your data on to third parties, but your first name will be published together with your question and the corresponding answer on the research portal on WU’s website as part of WU’s public relations activities. Once your question is published, it is not possible to rule out that the data may be accessed from third countries.

HOW LONG DO WE STORE YOUR DATA?

The research portal will be accessible on the WU website for 3 years. We will save the published question, the corresponding answer, and your first name for the entire time the information remains accessible on our website. Your email address will be deleted as soon as your question has been answered.

WHAT ARE YOUR RIGHTS AS A DATA SUBJECT?

As a data subject affected by these data processing activities, you have the following rights vis-a-vis the controller pursuant to the GDPR:

  • Right to information and access to the data

  • Right to correction of data

  • Right to deletion of the data

  • Right to restrict the data processing

  • Right to data portability

  • Right to object to the data processing

As a data subject, you also have the right to file a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority.
