Unwind and explore: what to do in Vienna
Vienna offers a wide variety of recreational activities: from cultural events to sport, there’s something for everyone. Admission prices vary widely, but many places offer student discounts and some institutions cater especially to students, e.g. the Universitätssportinstitut (USI). Usually all you need is a student ID to be eligible for discounted admissions.
Sport
Sport and exercise are a good way to relax and re-charge after a challenging day in class. The Universitätssportinstitut (USI) has an athletic center on Campus WU, with gymnasiums and a fitness room. To find out more about the courses and services available from USI, please see their website.
Further opportunities to play sports on campus include a basketball court located between the WU Executive Academy and the department building 4, and table tennis tables behind department building 3.
Parks
The beautifulPrater park right next to Campus WU is an ideal place for jogging, cycling, walking, inline skating, and more. If you are interested in joining a sports team or club, you can find more information on theCity of Vienna homepage.
The Donauinsel and Alte Donau are also ideal places to play sports, swim, and chill with friends.
Other beautiful parks in Vienna are Stadpark, Türkenschanzpark, Augarten and Setagaya park.
You can also explore the vineyards and nature surrounding Vienna, by taking public transport up to Kahlenberg or Leopoldsberg. There are also many hiking routes all around Vienna, that you can find them here; you can reach all starting points with public transport.
Austrian students’ union for WU (ÖH WU)
The Austrian Students’ Union offers a number of recreational activities for WU students. Taking part in these activities is also a very effective way to meet new friends!
Cultural activities
Whether you’d like to visit a museum, attend a concert, or go to the movies, you have a huge array of activities to choose from in Vienna. Be sure to ask if student discounts, group prices, or combination tickets are available, and always have your student ID with you. Belvedere: you can visit the museum for free one Friday each month, from 6 to 9 p.m., make sure to check their website for the dates!
Leopold Museum: free of charge every Thursday from 6 till 9 p.m.
Mumok
Wien Museum: the newest museum in Vienna, great to learn more about the history of the city! The permanent exhibition is for free

Cinema
If you like going to the cinema, Vienna has a lot to offer!
Each year in October, you can visit the Viennale, the citiy´s film festival. Not only you can watch many movies from everywhere in the world, but there are also a lot of events taking place throughout the festival that are worth checking out!
Most cinemas in Vienna also show international movies and have their own smaller festivals, it´s worth having a look at their programmes as there is always something interesting going on.
You can also become a member of the "nonstop kino abo", a membership that allows you to go to the cinema as often as you want for a small monthly fee (it´s cheaper if you are under 26 years of age!)
