Further improvements in the pay scale of assistant professors with EV and Senior Lecturer Post Doc

teaching

In our January issue of BR-Info we already reported on changes to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Staff (Uni-KV) in the so called "B scheme", which since January 2025 have provided for a further salary level for all teaching and research associates, assistant professors, senior lecturers and senior scientists as well as research project staff members and lecturers with an employment contract with WU, among other things. However, due to an absorption clause provided for these improvements in the Uni-KV, in which existing extra pay could be offset, the effects on WU's internal salary schemes for assistant professors with an EV (development agreement) and Senior Lecturer Post Doc were unclear.

To clarify these issues, we entered into a dialogue with the Vice-Rector for Human Resources at the beginning of the year. This resulted in improvements for both internal salary schemes, which have been applied since April 2025.

After the changes to the Uni-KV and the application of the valorization for 2025, Senior Lecturer Post Docs were paid 27.3 euros above the minimum salary provided for in the Uni-KV at the highest WU-salary level (after 32 years). The extra pay in this level has now been increased to 300 euros per month. In all other salary levels, Senior Lecturers Post Doc will continue to receive the salary provided for in the KV (which has been significantly increased for Post Docs from the 16th year of employment since January 2025).

The pay scale for assistant professors with EV has been improved more comprehensively. Compared to February 2025, there will be an increase of EUR 105.5 per month to EUR 5,400 (from April 2025) at the conclusion of the EV. Salaries will also be increased from the twelfth year as an assistant professor with EV. Specifically, the salary after twelve years will be 6,300 euros, after 18 years 6,575 euros, after 24 years 6,825 euros and after 30 years 7,024 euros (all figures for 2025).

These improvements are a first step towards making permanent positions in the B1 scheme more attractive, which has been demanded by those affected and the relevant trade union (GÖD) for years. It is also a sign of appreciation for important categories of staff who play a major role in WU's success. At the same time, the demand remains that the employees in permanent employment relationships are not mechanically paid at or near the minimum salary level according to the KV, but that there are transparent and structurally anchored opportunities for extra pay in these personnel categories as a continued improvement and appreciation.
