Visit to the Social and Economic Museum “What Would Vienna Be Like?” 27.01.2026

GW

Together with Administrative Staff council, we invited WU’s employees to visit the anniversary exhibition “What Would Vienna Be Like?”. The tour led by curator Gernot Waldner offered an exciting insight into innovative forms of knowledge transfer based on Otto Neurath's method of pictorial statistics. An “Alphabet of Vienna” reinterprets key topics such as transport, life, and housing. The exhibition looks back and also into the future, encouraging visitors to think about the future of the city. Thanks to the entertaining and very interesting tour, this was very successful. In addition to providing professional inspiration, the visit also offered an opportunity to exchange ideas with the museum team.

Visit to the “Käthe Leichter Exhibition” 17.02.2026

Käthe Leichter

Together with the Equal Opportunities Committee (AKG), the two Staff Councils invited visitors to a guided tour about Käthe Leichter in the former laundromat in the Karl-Marx-Hof.

Based on Käthe Leichter's life story, the tour shed light on the mostly poor living conditions of the inhabitants of Vienna at the turn of the century (1900), the history of Austria’s First Republic, and the subsequent dictatorships.

It was particularly interesting to learn about the parallel development of the Chamber of Labour (“Arbeiterkammer”), in which Käthe Leichter was heavily involved. On her initiative, numerous studies were conducted, particularly on groups that otherwise received little attention, such as domestic workers, who were subjected to extreme exploitation at the time and not only had extremely long working days, but often received no pay for their work and had to endure physical violence from their employers.

The tour impressively demonstrated the improvements in the working world that have been achieved in Austria over the last 100 years through the efforts of interest representation groups like the Chamber of Labour.

VALIDA information event 24.02.2026

Once a year, both Staff Councils, together with representatives from WU’s payroll office, organize an information event on the pension fund solution at WU. The event is aimed specifically at those who are newly included in the pension fund after two years of continuous employment at WU, as employees have several options to choose from with regard to investing in the pension fund. This and much more information was explained in detail at the event. If you missed the event, you can also find the slides on our homepage. In addition, the most important information about the pension fund solution is summarized here. Questions can also be sent to wiss.betriebsrat@wu.ac.at. We are happy to help.
