Exchange & Double Degrees
Gaining a global mindset and acquiring intercultural competences is a vital part of an academic education. Students in the master's program Business Communication can either spend a semester abroad, apply for one of the double degree programs (Tilburg University, BI Norwegian Business School) or apply for the GSM program.
Double degree programs are exclusive academic programs offered in cooperation with renowned international partner universities. More information on double degree programs are provided here.
Exchange semester
The flexible structure of the master's program Business Communication allows you to go abroad in your third semester. Information on exchange spots and the application process is available on the website of the International Office. You may also use the partner university map to find further information about partner universities. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the International Office.
Double Degree Program Tilburg University
WU’s double degree with Tilburg University promotes excellent chances to expand your international network and to deepen your knowledge in the field of business communication.

Suitable double degree program for students in the master’s program Business Communication.
You will spend the first year at WU Vienna and the second year at Tilburg University – School of Humanities and Digital Sciences (please see master’s program in Communication and Information Sciences)
At the end of your studies, you will obtain two academic degrees – one is awarded by WU, the other by Tilburg University.

Students can apply for the double degree with Tilburg University during their first semester, once they have been admitted to the master’s program Business Communication.

Global Sustainability Management (GSM)

Key Facts
GSM is a one-year experience in a Joint Programme (60 ECTS) offered by 10 partner unviersities.
Students have access to a learning experience at the level of executive education, beyond what is usually available at the master’s programme level.
All semester activities are interlinked in bootcamps, team building workshops, immersive learning, simulations and project labs.
Learning happens inside and outside of the classroom.
Students meet and network with experienced faculty from 10 different partner universities and international company experts.
Receive a jointly-issued certificate after completing the programme, which shows your involvement with all 10 partner universities.
GSM offers 10 spots for WU students from the Master Programmes: Business Communication, Marketing and SIMC.

How does a GSM year look like for students in the master’s program Business Communication?
Accepted students will be invited to join various activities before they begin with the programme in order to meet the GSM community of students, lecturers and practitioners.
All activities are designed to allow you to stay in touch with the whole GSM community for the duration of the programme and beyond.
Your First GSM Semester (28 ECTS) will start at WU Campus in Fall 2027, where you will meet your cohort in person and begin your GSM seamless learning experience.
The GSM Fall Cohort is composed by students of the following universities: WU, LUISS, Tilburg University, Toulouse Capitole University, University of Mannheim, University of St. Gallen, UNWE.Your Second GSM Semester (32 ECTS) will take place in one of the partner universities available for the Spring 2028 Semester: LUISS, NHH, Tilburg University, Toulouse Capitole University, University of Mannheim, University of St. Gallen, UNWE.
During this last semester, you will complete a set of GSM Electives (30 ECTS) focused on deepening and expanding the knowledge gathered during your First GSM Semester. You can have a look at the sample elective courses for Spring 2028 here.
*Just like a traditional exchange, this stay abroad during Spring 2028 should be possible as an Erasmus mobility.
► Application Requirements
GSM applicants are expected to provide the following documentation as a PDF and in English:
Bachelor’s transcript (if you did not do your bachelor’s at WU).
Curriculum vitae (CV) or equivalent that shows education, extracurricular activities, international experience, work experience, other relevant skills.
Motivation letter (max. 700 words) focused on answering the following questions:
Can you describe a moment or experience that sparked your interest in sustainability or social responsibility?
What actions have you taken personally to contribute to sustainability or social impact?
How does this programme align with your long-term goals and values?
If you could design a challenge, initiative or project, what would be its focus and why?
List your 3 preferences from the 7 available partner universities for your Second GSM Semester (Spring 2028).
WU students have a high-likelihood of being asigned to their first priority location as the exchange semester is required.

*Accepted WU students will start GSM in Fall 2027 at WU and continue the programme with a stay abroad in Spring 2028 at one of 7 partners universities: LUISS, NHH, Tilburg University, Toulouse Capitole University, University of Mannheim, University of St. Gallen, UNWE.
► Selection Results
Once the application period has come to an end on November 6, 2026 at 14:00, a selection of the students based on their submitted documents will be carried out by the GSM Team.
Allocations are expected to be announced by November 13, 2026.
