ENGAGE.EU Societal Outreach

Engaged in Society

ENGAGE.EU collaborates with various actors to tackle grand societal challenges, bridging academia and the society to find sustainable solutions. Innovation happens when actors from different sectors work together, using their skills and ideas. Collaboration between universities and societal actors is crucial for fostering innovation, addressing societal challenges, and driving positive change. ENGAGE.EU universities work with industry, public institutions, non-profit organisations, and civil society, co-creating solutions to complex problems. They leverage resources and expertise for real-world impact, aiming to be valuable partners locally and across Europe.

To achieve these goals, ENGAGE.EU offers a number of collaborative programs and activities, including:

Collaboration with External Stakeholders

  • ENGAGE.EU builds relationships with external stakeholders like municipalities, businesses, NGOs, societal groups, and alumni.

  • The alliance has created local chapters involving external stakeholders in ENGAGE.EU events and projects.

  • Co-creation activities are organized, bringing partners together to work on topics such as the circular economy, labor market, digitalization, and other important issues.

ENGAGE.EU Labs

  • ENGAGE.EU universities have established open, dynamic innovation spaces called ENGAGE.EU Labs for co-creation teams.

  • These labs are challenge-based, innovative models of collaboration and co-creation, offering a new approach to education for European citizens.

  • Each hosting university serves as an orchestrator of innovation networks, involving researchers, learners, entrepreneurs, companies, and civil society.

  • Activities in the labs include Expedition Weeks, the Collaboration Circle,  Entrepreneurial Pathways, and other co-creation activities.

Expedition Weeks

  • EU Expedition Weeks are highly successful challenge-based formats within the labs that encourage creative thinking and co-creation using design thinking methods.

  • Students from various disciplines collaborate with mentors, researchers, and experts to solve real-world problems in an international, team-based environment.

  • Final solutions are presented to experts and may evolve into full projects for institutions.

Work Integrated Learning Program

  • The program is aimed at learners, practitioners and entrepreneurs interested in lifelong learning and contributing to the community.

  • Acquiring new skills through the program helps professionals become socially responsible and adapt to changing work environments.

  • It provides up-to-date knowledge and relevant skills in an international learning environment.

  • EU's network of business and social partners is an essential part of the program.
