Further Explanations

Why key leadership messages?

Until now, there has been no explicitly articulated understanding of leadership at WU. With the current Rectorate program, the topic of leadership development has been strategically anchored. The six key leadership messages consolidate the foundations of good leadership at WU and provide a common basis and language for leadership. They facilitate the implementation of values and goals in everyday leadership practice.

How to understand and apply the key messages?

WU’s key leadership messages are intended as a guide rather than a set of rules – a shared "North Star" that provides direction without imposing rigid requirements. They invite you to reflect on your leadership actions and continuously develop them. Implementation is context-sensitive and allows for individual interpretation.

Where can I find support for implementation?

In the WU in-house training program, it will soon be indicated which key messages the offerings align with. This way, you can select workshops and webinars that are more precisely tailored to your needs as a leader.

In addition, from the first quarter of 2026 onwards, short formats will be offered, in which you will work alongside fellow WU leaders, with external support, to explore the respective core messages. These short formats will invite you to participate in translating the key messages into concrete leadership actions. The Personnel Development office will provide separate information about this offer.

Furthermore, you can receive personalized support to help you implement these skills in your day-to-day leadership activities, in the form of one-to-one coaching sessions with selected coaches from the PE Coach Pool.

What role does the 360° feedback play in this?

A 360° feedback tool enables leaders to receive structured feedback from various perspectives. This complements everyday feedback situations in a valuable way. You will receive helpful insights for the development of your leadership competencies and the implementation of the key messages.
