Plagiarism

WU expects all members of the university to uphold academic integrity and follow proper procedures when preparing academic work.

Good academic practice means complying with legal regulations, ethical standards, and the current state of knowledge in the respective discipline. Certain violations of good academic practice qualify as academic misconduct (§ 2a Higher Education Quality Assurance Act – HS-QSG).

The following actions are considered academic misconduct:
  • Using unauthorized aids, including the misuse of artificial intelligence applications;

  • Involving another person in the writing of a paper, taking an exam, or producing an artistic work, or submitting a commissioned paper created by a third party (ghostwriting);

  • Adopting texts, ideas, or artistic works in whole or in part and presenting them as one’s own. This includes using text passages, theories, hypotheses, findings, or data—whether quoted directly, paraphrased, or translated—without properly acknowledging and citing the source and author (plagiarism).
