Exam retake
An exam that has been passed may be repeated once within 12 months of the original exam date. By retaking the exam, the first positive assessment becomes void, i.e., it is possible for the result to be worse. The request to repeat the exam must be submitted exclusively by email to the Examinations Office.
Examination board
Examination board examinations are only held for LVP examinations, subject examinations, and module examinations.
In the introductory and orientation phase (STEOP), the third exam retake (i.e., the fourth attempt) must be held as a commission exam.
In the main study period, the third and fourth exam retakes (i.e., the fourth and fifth attempts) must always take the form of a commission exam. Upon request, the third exam attempt may also be held as a commission exam. The request for a commission exam (only applies to the third attempt) must be submitted exclusively by email to the Examinations Office.
The examination board usually consists of three university lecturers. For the last permissible retake of the final examination in the program, the examination board consists of two university lecturers from the relevant department ( ) and the Vice Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs.
Examinations before an examination board do not differ from non-examination board examinations in terms of registration or conduct. However, the assessment is carried out by an examination board.
Assessment deadline
Exams and courses must be assessed within 4 weeks after the performance or completion of the course.
Access to examination documents
Students may inspect the assessment documents within 6 months of the announcement of the assessment. Copies of the documents may be made, but the examination paper may not be taken away.
Multiple-choice questions, including the respective answer options, are excluded from the right to reproduction. There is no right to reproduce sample solutions.
Legal protection in examinations
In principle, complaints against exam assessments are not permitted. However, if the conduct of an exam that has been assessed negatively reveals a serious deficiency (fire alarm, etc.), students may apply for the exam to be canceled within four weeks of the announcement of the exam results. The application must be submitted to the Study Law & Recognition department, and the serious deficiency must be substantiated in writing. The exam that was canceled doesn't count toward the number of times you're allowed to take it.
Further information on legal protection in examinations can be found here
Obtaining examination results by fraudulent means
If a student is found to have obtained an examination result by fraudulent means (e.g., cheating during an examination, use of unauthorized aids), proceedings will be initiated to annul the result. The exam declared invalid will be counted toward the total number of exam attempts. The procedure is initiated by the Study Law & Recognition department and handled jointly with the Study Support department. Writing an exam for another person constitutes document forgery under criminal law and will result in a report to the public prosecutor's office without exception, which in turn may result in a criminal record.
Compensation
The amount of the examination fees for the assessment has been negotiated and set in a works agreement between WU as the employer and the works council for academic staff.
