Learning with a Neurodivergent Brain – ADHD, Autism and Neurodiversity

… exploring different ways of thinking, learning, and processing the world

Over the past decade, the way we talk about mental health, disability, and learning differences has changed a lot. But what does neurodiversity actually mean - and why does it matter at university?

This talk is for anyone who is curious about neurodiversity, knows someone who is neurodivergent, or is neurodivergent themselves. It offers a clear and accessible introduction to Autism and AD(H)D, with a special focus on how neurodivergent brains learn, process information, and experience university life.

You’ll learn what the neurodiversity paradigm is, clear up common myths and misconceptions about Autism and AD(H)D, and explore how neurodivergent traits can affect learning, attention, motivation, sensory experiences, and stress. The talk also includes practical tips for studying, staying organized, and managing academic demands in ways that work better for neurodivergent students.

Finally, we’ll look at how more supportive learning environments can be created and why neurodivergent perspectives are not just important, but a real strength in academic spaces and in society as a whole.

Mag. Anna Binder-Kita is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice in Vienna, specialized in working with neurodivergent adults, especially those diagnosed later in life. With nearly a decade of experience, she utilizes Gestalt and sensory-sensitive approaches within a neurodivergent-friendly framework and is giving seminars and teaching throughout Austria. Currently, she is also working on her dissertation on making psychotherapy more accessible for autistic adults, with a focus on the double empathy problem. She is passionate about helping neurodivergent people to unmask, self-regulate and better understand their own strengths.
