Highlights and News

ASTRA Awards (FWF), deadline: 03 October 2024
Starting in the fall of 2024, the FWF will be launching a new career funding program called the FWF ASTRA Awards. This funding will help advanced postdocs in Austria make the leap to the top of their research field. Application guidelines are available here.

Austrian Climate Research Programme (ACRP), deadline: 12 December 2024
The ACRP focuses on research on climate change and climate actions, adaptation, mitigation and their mutual interrelation. The intent is to provide scientific back- ground for the implementation of the Austrian strategy for adaptation to climate change, the National Energy and Climate Plan (NEKP) and the Paris Agreement.

ERC-Grants 2025:
Starting Grant, deadline: 15 October 2024
The ERC Starting Grants are designed to support excellent Principal Investigators at the career stage at which they are starting their own independent research team or programme.
Consolidator Grant, deadline: 14 January 2025
The ERC Consolidator Grants are designed to support excellent Principal Investigators at the career stage at which they may still be consolidating their own independent research team or programme.
Advanced Grant, deadline: 28 August 2025
ERC Advanced Grants are designed to support excellent Principal Investigators at the career stage at which they are already established research leaders with a recognised track record of research achievements.
Synergy Grant, deadline: 06 November 2024
ERC Synergy Grants support a small group of two to maximum four Principal Investigators (PIs), hereafter the Synergy Grant group, (and their teams) to jointly address ambitious research problems that could not be addressed by the individual Principal Investigators and their teams working alone.

Research Groups (FWF)deadline: 30 September 2024

The program is aimed at  teams of 3 to 5 internationally outstanding researchers from all scientific disciplines, in particular from the humanities, social sciences, and cultural sciences, working at Austrian research institutions.

Research Group funding is mainly intended to support joint multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary projects conducted by outstanding researchers. Research Groups establish research on an innovative topic in Austria for the first time or expand or supplement existing key research focuses at research institutions.

Funding period and funding amount: Up to € 1.5 million for 5 years

WEAVE Switzerland (FWF), deadline: 01 October 2024

In cooperation with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), the FWF offers funding for closely integrated project collaborations between researchers in Austria and Switzerland. More information

Post-DocTrack (ÖAW), deadline: 15 November 2024

The OeAW awards up to eight fellowships per year to holders of a doctorate or PhD in the humanities and social and cultural sciences in order to assist in the transition to the post-doc phase.

In particular, the aim is to support: the completion of publications resulting from a doctoral thesis; the development of a candidate’s own research project for applying to national or international funding bodies; the development of (international) networks and cooperation. More information

International Communication (ÖFG), next deadlines: 06 October 2024, 10 November 2024
This research funding scheme provides funding for trips abroad and will give guest researchers the opportunity to come to Austria. The funding is aimed at junior researchers demonstrating academic excellence, who have been unable to receive sufficient funding from other institutions either on formal grounds or due to a shortage of resources. Canon Foundation in Europe, deadline: 15 September 2024
Annually, the Canon Foundation in Europe grants up to 15 Fellowships to highly qualified European and Japanese researchers. European Fellows are expected to pursue a period of research in Japan whereas Japanese Fellows are expected to do their research in Europe. More Information

Stanisław Lem European Research Prize, deadline: 30 September 2024
Lem Prize is awarded annually to one young researcher whose creative work in science or engineering has potential for positive impact on the future of civilization increasingly filled with technology. More Information

Dr. Maria Schaumayer Foundation, deadline: 15 October 2024
Objective of this non-profit foundation: active support and promotion of women's careers in business and science; promotion of research and improvement of the framework conditions for these careers. More Information (only in German)

Fulbright Grants for Teaching, Research, Career Development, or Institutional Collaboration deadline: 30 October 2024

Klaus-Liebscher-Economic-Research-Scholarship, deadline: 31 October 2024
The Scholarship program targets Austrian and international experts with a proven research record in economics and finance and with postdoctoral research experience. Applicants need to be in active employment with a research institution in Austria or abroad and should be interested in broadening their research horizon and expanding their personal research networks in an environment of increasing international research mobility.
