Arbitration Board

Responsibilities of the Arbitration Board

The duties of the Arbitration Board pursuant to § 43 of the Universities Act include:

  • Mediating disputes between university faculty, staff, and students

  • Deciding on complaints filed by the Equal Opportunities Committee due to discrimination on the basis of gender, ethnicity, religion or belief, age, or sexual orientation resulting from decisions of a university body

  • Deciding on objections filed by the Equal Opportunities Committee against shortcomings regarding the composition of collegial bodies, within a period of four weeks

  • Deciding on objections filed by the Equal Opportunities Committee against shortcomings regarding election proposals for Senate elections, within a period of 14 days

Composition of the Arbitration Board

The Arbitration Board consists of six members, who do not have to be affiliated with WU. The Senate, the University Board, and the Equal Opportunities Committee shall each nominate one male and one female member, who serve for a term of office of two years.

Two of the members must have legal expertise. The Senate, the University Board, and the Equal Opportunities Committee shall each nominate one substitute member.

In performing this function, the members of the Arbitration Board are not bound by any instructions or orders.
