Access to the Specializations

Prerequisites for application and start of the specialization:

WISO 2019: STEOP, 27 ECTS from the CBK, including at least AMC I, AMC II, BIS I, WPR I, and Statistics

WIRE 2016: STEOP, completion of the Business Administration course, Statistics

WISO 2023: STEOP, at least 20 ECTS from the CBK, including Financial Statements and Corporate Reports, Mathematics, and Statistics (mandatory track selection in OSS)

WIRE 2023: STEOP, Statistics, Annual Financial Statements and Corporate Reports, and 2 elective courses (4 ECTS each) in Business Administration, Mathematics, or Macroeconomics

BBE: Completion of both Introductory Courses & at least 42 ECTS credits from the core courses, excluding the “Academic Skills” courses ("Introduction to Academic Writing" and "Logic and Methodology of Social Sciences").

Each specialization, minor, or study abroad program that has been started or completed reduces the number of registration options by one. (Excluding 10-ECTS specializations in the BBE program)

• Please make sure your two-factor authentication (2FA) is up to date before logging in.

• Please plan on spending two semesters completing a specialization.

• Check the course schedules for your preferred specializations to avoid scheduling conflicts.

• Check your WU account regularly for notifications during the admission process.

• Register for the access to specialization via my@WU.

• The number of spots for the respective admission processes may be increased, as these do not represent the actual number of specialization spots available.

• Rank your preferences honestly by the deadline. (see Dates and Deadlines)

• In the “Select Number” field, indicate by the deadline how many specializations you would like to start this semester. If you only need one specialization, the “Select Number” field will not be displayed. (see Dates and Deadlines)

• Be sure to take the entrance exam (take-home exam, etc.) and/or submit your application documents by the deadline.

After the admission process, allocations to specializations take place through MyMatch. Each of you has a virtual agent that finds the best possible allocations for you based on your preferences and the rankings of the specializations.

The grade can be viewed in LPIS under “Grade List.”

• Successfully Participated: You must register for at least one course via LPIS during the first registration period (see Dates and Deadlines). Your specialization will automatically appear in your LPIS study plan before registration begins.

• Not Successfully Participated: You did not achieve the required minimum score of 40% on the placement test/admission exam and are therefore ineligible for that specialization this semester.

• Did not Attend: You did not take the placement test, or you did not submit your application documents by the deadline or submitted an incomplete application; therefore, you are excluded from the respective specialization for this semester.

• No grade: If you have no grade, you are eligible for the Study Progress Quota (SFK in German). No separate registration is required for the “SFK”!

If you have not received a grade in a particular specialization, you are eligible for SFK placement in that specialization.

• Check your WU account for notifications.

• If you are offered a spot through the SFK, you must register for at least one course by the specified deadline. Your specialization will automatically appear in the LPIS study plan before registration begins.

• If you do not register by the deadline or do not accept the spot, you will be excluded from the SFK for the remainder of your studies.

Important Information About the Study Progress Quota (SFK)

Within each specialization, 5% of the available spots are allocated through the academic progress quota. These spots are reserved exclusively for students who meet the following requirements:

• Registration for the respective Accessto Specialization

• Timely submission of application documents and/or participation in the entrance exam

• Achieving a score of at least 40% in the admissions process

• Failure to secure a spot in a specialization “on one’s own”

We do not recommend relying solely on the academic progress quota to gain admission to your desired specialization. The allocation of spots depends on the number of eligible students and their ECTS progress, and therefore cannot be predicted from semester to semester. We are therefore unable to provide any predictions regarding the allocation of spots.

Allocation guidelines:

• Since your academic progress is taken into account for evaluation purposes, please ensure that your course credits have already been recognized and assigned (e.g., from study abroad or as part of your elective courses). The ECTS credits already entered into the system for the degree program in which you have registered for the “Access to Specialization” are relevant.

• If multiple specializations are eligible for allocation, students do not have a choice. Your preferences cannot be taken into account during SFK allocation.

• Only one specialization can be allocated per semester via the academic progress quota.

• Starting in the winter semester 2026/27, BBE students will also be integrated into the SFK.

• Only students who receive a spot through the Academic Progress Quota will be notified—as soon as the allocation is complete, we will make this information available here.

• Failure to register by the deadline or to accept an allocated spot will result in exclusion from the SFK for the remainder of your studies.

Students enrolled in a customized bachelor’s program should note that any passing grades from the University of Vienna that are to be taken into account for their academic progress must be submitted to the Examination Office. The relevant documents (transcript and academic record) must be submitted via email to exam.individuell@wu.ac.at before registration for the specialization begins.

If spots become available after the first registration phase because students did not register by the deadline, these remaining spots will be reallocated as part of the academic progress quota (SFK).

• If you have been assigned a spot, we will notify you via your WU account before the second registration phase.

• You must register for at least one course during the second registration phase. (see Dates and Deadlines)
