FT Global Masters in Management Ranking: WU comes in 28th out of 100

12/09/2022

This year’s edition of the Global Masters in Management Ranking issued by the Financial Times, the renowned business newspaper, places WU’s English-taught Master’s Program in International Management/CEMS (The Global Alliance in Management Education) at 28th place out of 100 programs ranked. This result puts WU at sixth place in the German-speaking region.

The annual FT Global Masters in Management Ranking is issued by the UK-based Financial Times. It ranks master’s degree programs in management based on 16 criteria that are assessed based on data provided by the universities and surveys of alumni who completed the respective programs three years ago.

A consistent track record of good results

The Master’s in International Management/CEMS program, available in Austria exclusively at WU, has made it in the top 30 in the FT ranking again this year (last year, the program came in at 18th place). The master’s program offers students an education that is highly regarded internationally and includes an exchange semester at a renowned partner university abroad, an international internship for gaining practical experience, and networking opportunities for establishing contacts to leading companies. WU Rector Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger says, “WU’s Master's Program in International Management/CEMS has a consistent track record of good ranking results, and this year’s FT ranking is no exception. Many universities work hard to be included in the annual Financial Times ranking, but only 100 worldwide achieve this goal. Once again, WU has every reason to be proud of its performance in this year’s ranking.”

International experience and attractive career prospects

The ranking is based on 16 categories in three areas: alumni career progress, diversity (percentages of female and international students and personnel), and international experience and research. In detail, the results show, for example, that 94% of WU alumni find a job within three months of graduating. WU also achieves good scores for the international environment that it offers its students. Among other benefits, this results in higher levels of career mobility later on and great student satisfaction with the program. With regard to the ranking criteria, Rector Hanappi-Egger says, “Some of the categories are clearly beyond the control of a university, especially salary increases three years after graduation. In this area, we clearly see that companies based in Austria, but also for example in the UK, have a very hard time competing with firms in Asia, especially China, when it comes to entry-level salaries and salary increases later on in graduates’ careers.”

WU is the only Austrian university ranked

Coming in at 28th place out of 100 universities listed in the 2022 ranking, WU is in the same league as renowned institutions such as Germany’s University of Mannheim (24th place), the Prague University of Economics and Business (25th place), and UK’s Warwick Business School (27th place). WU Is the only Austrian university represented in the ranking. Switzerland’s University of St. Gallen again takes the top spot in the ranking this year, followed by HEC Paris and the Rotterdam School of Management (Netherlands).
