Speaker Series at the Department of Strategy and Innovation | Professor Scott Swan

01/10/2015

The IfSTO would like to cordially invite you to the upcoming research talk by

Professor Scott Swan (College of William & Mary, Williamsburg)

Topic: Present, Past, and Future: From Philosophical Design Movements to the Pragmatic Rise of Design as Innovation & Entrepreneurial Strategy (and my small contribution to Measurement & Management of a Design Orientation)

Abstract (short):
Researchers and industry have noted the importance of qualitative product issues, such as design. Past research on strategic orientations has not fully captured the competitive essence of companies such as BMW, Bang & Olufsen, or Dyson which build their cultures and strategies around an intense emphasis on product design.  This research describes the historical basis for this emergent competitive advantage along with identifying the antecedents and testing the effects of a Design Orientation (DO) on innovation and company performance.  Ideas in entrepreneurship are also tied to the emerging strategic role of design.

Time:  Thursday, 15th October 2015 from 12:00 (noon) until 1:30 pm
Location: The talk will take at Seminar room
