EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The two-sided platform “Festiva” aims to simplify planning a night-out in Vienna and establish itself as an emerging player in a fragmented market. An intuitive and modern mobile application will provide users an overview of Vienna’s nightlife venues and current events to aid them in making a better-informed choice which location to visit.

Goal

Based on a beachhead-market approach, we derived that tourists needed a new and centralized source of information in the party-planning market. Conversely, Vienna’s nightlife venues lacked a streamlined and local platform that presented an efficient approach to showcase their events, while not overburdening potential visitors with unnecessary information. Against this background, Festiva will focus on providing partygoers solely the most relevant pieces of information in order to emphasize this core idea. Therefore, the goal was to create a platform based on the needs voiced by prospective business partners and customers.

Methodology

Utilizing the lean start-up method and its’ core principle of testing and iterating, two separate online surveys with more than 300 participants were conducted in order to determine unfulfilled needs on the B2C-side of our business. Moreover, nine interviews with potential lead users were held to reveal previously unidentified issues regarding the current sources of information for planning a night-out. Additionally, an in-person survey with 34 participants was conducted to ascertain the preferred method of using our platform. Based on these results, a mock-up mobile application was created and used to perform a prototype demonstration with seven participants with the goal to improve upon its current state. In addition, extensive desk research was vital in order to identify the market size for the pre-determined customer segments.  

Results

The findings stemming from the desk research and surveys enabled us to identify a major underserved market of German tourists that had issues when planning their evenings while on vacation. Accordingly, the platform was built with the results in mind to resolve their issues while simultaneously providing an efficient promotional tool for Vienna’s nightlife scene. Both aspects in mind led to the creation of a user-friendly and minimalistic mobile application that aims to solve current inadequacies.
