ComCraft – Make Your DIY Dreams Come True

01/08/2022

Sommersemester 2022 / ComCraft

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Ever wanted to craft something yourself? Chances are you ran into some problems. You did not have enough space as you live in a small flat, did not have the right tools as they are too expensive or did not know where to get the materials from and how to transport them. After intensive desk research, 5 iterations of hypothesis testing and 41 customer interviews ComCraft got the solution.

Goal

Our goal is to understand and solve our customers problem. By doing so we empower creative minds to craft the DIY project of their dreams. Additionally, we want to bring people together so that Do-it-yourself turns into Do-it-together.

Methodology

We used the lean startup method to come up with our business ideas. This method aims at finding a business model in a quick manner. It consists of testing, revising and discarding hypothèses and gathering customer feedback to quickly adapt the business model. By doing so the chance of releasing products that no one wants decreases. Throughout our lean start-up journey we did 5 iterations of hypothesis testing, 41 customer interviews and 10 prototype demonstrations all providing us with valuable feedback.

Results

Our journey started with the idea of HowDad. A website to explain basic handcraft skills and to provide general information about handcrafting. After interviews and research we realised that many of these platforms already exists so we pivoted to another idea, which is now called ComCraft.

Now we offer an allround care free package for diy projects. First you design your idea with our design tool, have it delivered to our workshops where you can build your project either alone, with one of our experts or with other Comcrafters. This way you can not only build your project but also build friendships. The design tool and the community aspect is what really sets us apart from the competition.

Additionally, we have validated many hypotheses, created personas and defined several customer segments.
