WU rector to join CEU’s Board of Trustees

25/06/2019

Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger was elected to the CEU Board of Trustees, the university’s highest decision-making body.

The Central European University (CEU), incorporated in New York State, is an American private university offering postgraduate programs (master’s and PhD) in humanities and social sciences, law, environmental sciences, business, economics, and mathematics. The Board of Trustees is responsible for managing the affairs, property, and assets of CEU and formulating the university’s strategy to ensure that the CEU achieves the goals stated in its by-laws.

“Universities are extremely important for society. Their task is to generate fact-based knowledge, free from ideologies and polemics, and they play an important role in a well-functioning democracy. It is precisely for this reason that universities may come to be perceived as a threat, as the case of CEU has shown us” said WU Vienna Rector Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger, adding that: ”It’s a great honor for me to be appointed to the Board of Trustees of this renowned university, and I’m looking forward to contributing to CEU’s success in this position. I’m also happy that CEU has found a new home here in Vienna.”
