2026 student selection procedures start at WU Vienna
March 2, 2026, marks the beginning of the registration period for prospective students to sign up for the selection procedure for admission.
March 2, 2026, marks the beginning of the registration period for prospective students to sign up for the selection procedure for admission to WU Vienna’s three bachelor’s programs – Business and Economics, Economics and Social Sciences, and Business Law. WU will be holding in-person entrance exams again to ensure fair conditions and exam integrity. For the first time, there will also be a selection procedure for the 120 spots available in the German-taught Master’s Program in Management, with registration open until March 17, 2026.
In recent years, WU Vienna has seen exceptionally high demand for its bachelor’s programs. Last year, WU admitted more than 12,000 applicants to the entrance exams. The number of student places available in the programs will remain unchanged for the coming academic year: 240 spots will be offered in the English-taught Bachelor’s Program in Business and Economics, 2,703 in Business, Economics, and Social Sciences, and 870 in Business Law. WU Rector Rupert Sausgruber is pleased to see such strong interest in WU’s programs. He says, “The large numbers of applications are a strong signal, and they confirm that our degree programs are very attractive due to their high quality, practical relevance, and international orientation.”
Multi-stage selection procedures for WU bachelor’s programs
Registration for WU’s bachelor’s programs is open until May 19, 2026. Applicants are required to complete an online self-assessment test by May 28, 2026. This includes questions about their expectations, interests, and subject-specific skills. The online self-assessment is not graded. It is intended first and foremost to give applicants a clear picture of where they stand. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of available places, WU will hold written entrance exams at the Vienna Congress & Convention Center on June 30, 2026 – the Business, Economics and Social Sciences exam will take place in the morning, and the Business and Economics exam in the afternoon. The Business Law exam will be held on July 1, 2026, most likely on Campus WU.
WU Open Day and exam preparation days
The WU Open Day on March 13, 2026, will offer prospective students insights into what it is like to take a bachelor’s program at WU Vienna. From June 26 to 28, 2026, (for Business Law) and June 27 to 29, 2026, (for Business and Economics as well as for Business, Economics and Social Sciences), exam preparation days with group study opportunities and workshops will be held on campus. Prospective students who would like to start a German-taught bachelor’s program in the 2026/27 winter semester or the 2027 summer semester must register before the deadline and pass the entrance exam. Late registration is not possible, and no additional examination dates will be offered. Intake into the Bachelor’s Program in Business and Economics is limited to the winter semester.
New registration requirement for German-taught master’s program
At Austrian universities and internationally, student places in English-taught master’s programs are usually awarded based on selection procedures. At WU, the application period for most English-taught master’s programs runs until March 8, 2026. New legislation now makes it possible to carry out selection procedures for particularly high-demand German-taught master’s programs as well. WU is now using this option for the first time to select students for its Master’s Program in Management. In this way, WU seeks to ensure appropriate student-faculty ratios and give applicants a clear perspective early on. Registration for the Master’s Program in Management is open until March 17, 2026. The entrance exam will take place in two stages: first, a written online exam on April 13, 2026, and then an oral exam for the best applicants who also meet the qualitative admission requirements on June 1, 2026. As Rector Rupert Sausgruber points out, “With up to 430 new students enrolling every year, the Master’s in Management is one of our most popular German-taught master’s programs. This has resulted in a student-faculty ratio of 50:1, which is a far cry from the ratio of 36.5:1 that we typically see at other Austrian universities. This has created major challenges for our faculty and students alike. We’re therefore launching this new selection procedure to ensure that applicants know early on whether they’ve been accepted and can plan accordingly. This is a fairer approach than having students undergo selection after they have already started the program.” Find out more about the selection procedures in place for WU’s programs
