Minimum Academic Performance Requirement
If you enroll in a bachelor’s program in or after the 2022/23 winter semester or if you resume your bachelor’s program after a break (in or after the 2022/23 winter semester), you must complete a minimum of 16 ECTS by the end of your fourth semester.
What Does This Mean?
Within the first 4 semesters, bachelor’s students have to complete at least 16 ECTS credits. All examination results within the scope of the respective program will be taken into account. This also includes extracurricular courses (e.g. enrichment courses). Transferred credits only count if the exam was taken during your first four semesters, but not before (Transferred credits of previous studies or your secondary school are therefore not relevant).
This Requirement Is Relevant For ...
new students admitted for the 2022/23 winter semester or a later semester (“Business, Economics and Social Sciences”, “Business Law”, “ Business and Economics” individual bachelor’s programs)
students resuming their bachelor’s program (or a follow-up bachelor’s program) after a break, as of the 2022/23 winter semester
How do I know that I have not (yet) fulfilled the minimum academic performance requirement?
If you have earned less than 12 ECTS credits after two semesters, we will send you an email and refer you to our support services. In your third and fourth semester you will still have time to achieve the minimum academic performance requirement. If you have earned less than 16 ECTS credits at the beginning of your fourth semester, we will notify you again of a possible expiration of your admission and the consequences thereof.
In which case will my admission expire?
If you do not fulfil the minimum academic performance requirement (16 ECTS credits) by the end of your fourth semester, your admission will expire. In the winter semester, this will come into effect on October 31, in the summer semester on March 31 – all exams taken up to this point will be considered.
If your admission expires, you will only be abel to enroll again and continue your studies after a two-year break.
What about exams taken during the first exam week of my fifth semester (early October/early March)? Do these ECTS credits count?
Yes, ECTS credits earned in your fifth semester by the deadline (winter semester: October 31 / summer semester: March 31) count towards your minimum academic performance requirement. This applies to exams taken/credits earned during the first exam week and any other credits earned in your fifth semester by the deadline (October 31 / March 31).
I have taken a leave of absence. Can I still fulfil the minimum academic performance requirement?
Semesters during which you take a leave of absence do not count. However, any ECTS credits earned in the relevant semester BEFORE you notified us of your leave of absence, do count.
If I switch curricula, what happens with regard to the minimum academic performance requirement?
If you have started or resumed a bachelor's degree program in the winter semester 2022/23 or thereafter, and subsequently switch curricula (e.g. from WISO19 to WISO23), you must still fulfil the minimum academic performance requirement within 4 semesters. Switching curricula does not lead to an extension of this deadline.
Who is exempt from the minimum academic performance requirement?
The minimum academic performance requirement does NOT apply for:
Students who enrolled in their WU bachelor’s program in a semester prior to the 2022/2023 winter semester and who actively switch or are “automatically” switched to a new curriculum. This only applies, however, if students have been continuously enrolled (without a break).
Students with a disability according to § 3 BGStG
How can students who are exempt from the minimum academic performance requirement due to § 3 BGStG prove this?
Students with a disability due to § 3 BGStG need to contact WU (BeAble team, email@example.com) and provide proof (via documentation) of their disability. This must be done by September 30 / February 28 of the year during which students would otherwise have to fulfil the minimum academic performance requirement.
