Teaching Skills Certificate | Terms of Participation and FAQs

The Teaching Skills Certificate (Basic) is intended for pre-doctoral teaching assistants at WU who are required to complete it as part of their obligation to undergo pedagogical and didactic continuing education under University Collective Bargaining Agreement § xx, para. X.

The program is primarily intended for pre-docs, who will be given priority during registration. Whether other individuals can participate depends on the specific program and the number of available spots. Please contact us at lehrenundlernen@wu.ac.at

You should complete the program within one year, ideally before you begin teaching. The elective module is an exception to this and can be taken either before the required modules begin or after they are completed.

You are free to choose the order of most modules. The only exceptions are the opening and closing sessions, which you should select as the first and last modules, respectively.

No. The program is designed as a basic qualification and is specifically intended to help students transition into an apprenticeship. Ideally, you should complete the program BEFORE starting your apprenticeship.

The final project involves developing your own curriculum design. The individual modules provide the building blocks for this. At the end, the curriculum design is presented during a final presentation and reviewed by your peers.

The program includes 30 hours of in-person instruction and 9 hours of self-study or work on your own course design.

Yes. By registering, you agree to participate fully in all modules. Therefore, please mark all program dates on your calendar and keep those dates free.

If you are unable to attend a module for valid reasons, please notify the team in a timely manner at lehrenundlernen@wu.ac.at. Please also indicate the alternative date on which you would like to make up the module.

Participation in the entire program is required for the Teaching Skills Certificate Basic. Whether individual modules can be taken independently depends on the specific offering and the availability of spots.

Yes. Participation in the Teaching Skills Certificate Basic program is free.

To apply, you must have a valid employment contract with WU for the entire duration of the program.

Registration is done through the linked registration pages for each module or using the registration information provided on the website.

After successfully completing all modules and the final presentation, you will receive the WU Teaching Skills Certificate Basic as proof of your qualification in higher education pedagogy.
