Faculty Mobility

Strength­en­ing the in­ter­na­tional mobil­ity of WU re­search­ers is of cru­cial im­port­ance, both for the in­di­vidual re­search­ers’ aca­demic ca­reers and WU’s in­ter­na­tional pos­i­tion. A vari­ety of op­por­tun­it­ies are avail­able for re­search­ers to gain in­ter­na­tional ex­per­i­ence, from at­tend­ing in­ter­na­tional con­fer­ences to com­plet­ing an entire stage of their aca­demic ca­reer abroad (e.g. doc­tor­ate or ve­nia do­cendi).

  • Par­ti­cip­a­tion in in­ter­na­tional aca­demic con­fer­ences for re­search­ers with or without a doc­toral de­gree:  WU travel al­low­ances (travel and lodging ex­penses, con­fer­ence fees, trip can­cel­la­tion in­sur­ance)

  • Par­ti­cip­a­tion in in­ter­na­tional aca­demic con­fer­ences/short-term stays at aca­demic in­sti­tu­tions abroad for re­search­ers with or without a doc­toral de­gree:  ÖFG in­ter­na­tional com­mu­nic­a­tion grants (travel and lodging ex­penses, con­fer­ence fees)

  • Short-term stays abroad (2-3 weeks) for re­search­ers without a doc­toral de­gree:  High Po­ten­tial Con­tact Weeks (travel and lodging ex­penses)

  • Me­di­um-length stays abroad (3 months) for post-­doc­toral re­search­ers:  WU Vis­it­ing Fel­low (travel and lodging ex­penses)

  • Me­di­um-length stays abroad (max. 6 months) for post-­doc­toral re­search­ers: post-­doc re­search con­tracts (fund­ing for hir­ing sub­sti­tute per­son­nel at the aca­demic unit, travel and lodging ex­penses)

  • Me­di­um-length stays abroad (2-6 months) for post-­doc­toral re­search­ers in /from spe­cific fo­cus coun­tries (in­com­ing and out­go­ing): JESH (travel and lodging ex­penses)

  • Long-term stays abroad (max. 12 months) for WU senior re­search­ers: re­search con­tracts (fund­ing for hir­ing sub­sti­tute per­son­nel at the aca­demic unit, travel and lodging ex­penses)

  • Long-term stays abroad (10 to 36 months) for post-­doc­toral re­search­ers:  FWF Er­win Schrödinger Fel­low­ships (basic grant, travel ex­penses, etc.)

  • Long-term stays abroad (3 to 12 months) for post-­doc­toral re­search­ers:  OeNB WU In­ter­na­tion­al­iz­a­tion Grant (in­ten­ded to help cover ex­penses which are not covered by the basic fund­ing ob­tained for a stay abroad and are not in­cluded in any other schol­ar­ship or grant, e.g. travel, lodging, and house­hold ex­penses)

  • Short-term stays in the USA (3-4 months) for post-­doc­toral re­search­ers: Ful­bright grants for teach­ing and re­search (basic grant, travel ex­penses, health and ac­ci­dent in­sur­ance)

  • Fin­an­cial sup­port for com­plet­ing part of an Aus­trian doc­toral/PhD pro­gram abroad (6-12 months, re­search work to op­tim­ize the doc­toral thesis): Mari­etta Blau Sti­pen­dium (Zuschusss­ti­pen­dium, keine Re­isekos­ten)

  • Er­asmus+ grants for teach­ing assign­ments at part­ner uni­versit­ies with a dur­a­tion of 2 days to 2 months. The min­imum re­quired teach­ing load is 8 hours or, for longer stays, 8 hours per week. For more in­form­a­tion, please see the web pages of the  In­ter­na­tional Of­fice.
