Entrepreneurship is a key skill of the 21st century and is becoming increasingly important for students, alumni, and faculty. WU is strengthening its activities in this field by inaugurating a new competence center dedicated to entrepreneurship on June 1. The main goal of the new WU Entrepreneurship Center will be to sustainably increase the number and quality of start-ups by WU students, alumni, and faculty.

The new WU Entrepreneurship Center will open its doors on June 1. It will provide information, networking opportunities, and support for WU students and faculty members interested in starting a business. “WU is an active player in inter-university knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship initiatives coordinated by the Entrepreneurship Center Network (ECN) and the WTZ Ost knowledge transfer hub. The new WU Entrepreneurship Center will strengthen WU’s involvement in these initiatives and improve the range of entrepreneurship-related information, networking opportunities, and services available to all Viennese universities,” says Rector Christoph Badelt.

Awareness, skill development, networking, support

The WU Entrepreneurship Center will bring together a range of decentralized activities under a single roof, giving increased momentum to entrepreneurship at WU: Its objectives are to raise awareness of the opportunities and possibilities offered by a career as entrepreneur and to support people interested in starting a business with skill development services, networking opportunities for getting into contact with peers and existing start-ups, sponsors, and investors, and other kinds of hands-on support, especially in the early stages of start-up projects.

Entrepreneurship Open Space

In offering its broad range of activities and support services, the Center will benefit from the experiences of other international entrepreneurship centers already cooperating with WU. “Entrepreneurship Open Space, a public space for entrepreneurship-related activities, will serve as the starting point for the Center’s activities,” says Nikolaus Franke, head of the WU Entrepreneurship Center. The Center is intended to serve as a meeting point for everyone interested in entrepreneurship, giving strong visibility and exposure to WU’s entrepreneur-ship activities. “A place where you can get in touch and get to know each other, where you can find support and partners for your start-up project. A place where ideas are hatched, exchanged, and developed. A place where successful WU entrepreneurs inspire others with their achievements,” says Rudolf Dömötör, the Center’s managing director.
