WU names OMV CEO Gerhard Roiss Honorary Senator

30/10/2014

In a unanimous vote, the WU Rector’s Council and Senate have decided to bestow the title of Honorary Senator upon Gerhard Roiss, CEO of OMV.

Aside from purely academic distinctions, the title of Honorary Senator is the highest honor awarded by WU. The title of Honorary Senator is conferred upon public figures who have earned outstanding merits in supporting WU and its academic and cultural mission.

A distinction honoring generous support

Upon the initiative of OMV CEO Gerhard Roiss, WU was granted the most substantial financial support package it had received in many years: as the result of its strong cooperation with OMV in research and teaching, WU was able to establish an endowed chair and create a knowledge network for the exchange of expertise in the field of energy. OMV also sponsored WU’s Central Library, located in the Library & Learning Center. “By naming Gerhard Roiss Honorary Senator, WU would like to express its gratitude for the generous support received from OMV under Mr. Roiss’s lead,” explains Rector Christoph Badelt.

The date of the ceremony for the conferral of the title of Honorary Senator is still to be announced.
