Mindful Morning – 30 minutes to arrive as yourself on campus

Photo with books and a cup on the floor

Time for a ‘20-minute dance’, a Social Presencing Theater technique that was developed by Arawana Hayashi as a social technology based on Theory U, developed by MIT’s Otto Scharmer.

It’s not about dancing, this practice offers time and space for you to sense into your body and play with movement and pausing. The intention is to come from lying down to standing within 20 minutes. You can playfully explore how you are showing up as yourself today.

ContextUniversity campuses are places where it’s easy to get into objectifying yourself: you identify yourself by rankings and grades and you tend to compare yourself to others. You cannot influence when or if others are judging you by mere metrics or if they choose to see your humanity. BUT you can choose to fully inhabit your body and feel well, before you shift into the mental, abstract hamster wheel. Being centered is a good  basis for being awake and ready to receive input in classes.
