The smart city is a vision for the cities of tomorrow, where digital technologies help to save energy, improve traffic flow, and streamline public administration. But there is no clear definition of what actually makes a smart city smart. Sara Matrisciano-Mayerhofer from WU’s Institute for Romance Languages carries out a research project that investigates how the smart city concept is infused with meaning. The project analyzes construction site signage for smart city projects under development in Vienna and Marseille.
