Spotlight on sustainable architecture: 10 years of Campus WU

11/04/2024

On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, WU Vienna and BIG (Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft) celebrated the 10th anniversary of Campus WU.

Key people involved in the project and renowned personalities from academia, architecture, and politics came together to take stock of the achievements and challenges associated with this pioneering urban development project.

Over the past ten years, Campus WU has had a profound impact on the Vienna cityscape, and it has become an international attraction for students, teachers, researchers, people interested in business and economics, and tourists with an affinity for architecture. Right from the start, economic, ecological, and social sustainability were key priorities in the construction project. All auditoriums are designed for barrier-free accessibility, all areas are accessible for wheelchair users, and an award-winning tactile guidance system helps people with vision impairments to find their way around campus. The architecture itself has also won several important awards. The centrally located Library & Learning Center, designed and planned by Zaha Hadid Architects, is the centerpiece of the campus and its main attraction.
