Registrations for WU’s bachelor’s programs record high again

02/06/2026

Nearly 13,000 applicants

In 2026, WU Vienna University of Economics and Business has once again seen an all-time high in the numbers of applicants seeking admission to its three bachelor’s programs.  Almost 13,000 applicants have been admitted to the entrance exams, which will be held at the end of June and beginning of July. Interest in studying at WU remains strong and is set to grow even more.

Approximately 6,370 people are eligible to take the entrance exam for admission to the German-taught Bachelor’s Program in Business, Economics and Social Sciences (WISO) this year, compared to 2,703 spots available in the program. Demand levels also remain high for the English-taught Bachelor’s Program in Business and Economics (BBE), with nearly 3,900 applicants planning to take the entrance exam. This means that around 16 applicants will be competing for each of the 240 program places available, making BBE one of the most highly selective programs in Austria. The German-taught Bachelor’s Program in Business Law (WIRE) has also seen a further increase in demand levels. This program, which combines a business education with a law degree, offers 870 spots.  Nearly 2,600 applicants have signed up to take the entrance exam. Applicant numbers already hit a record last year, but they are surpassed by the 2026 figures, which mark another clear all-time high. As WU Rector Rupert Sausgruber points out, “The fact that we’ve seen application numbers rise yet again comes as a strong signal, proving just how attractive WU is to prospective students due to the quality and range of its academic offerings.”

WU to host entrance exam preparation days for all applicants

All three 2026 bachelor's program entrance exams will be held in person. They will take place on June 30, 2026, (WISO and BBE) and on July 1, 2026, (WIRE) at the Vienna Congress & Convention Center (formerly known as Messe Wien).
To help students prepare, WU offers extensive support services.  For example, WU will invite all applicants to campus at the end of June to participate in exam preparation days featuring group study sessions, workshops, and campus tours. The goal is to provide prospective students with ample opportunities to prepare for the exams as thoroughly as possible. “It’s very important to us to support our prospective students as best as possible, even before they officially begin their studies. With all the information and preparatory services we offer, we want to ensure that all applicants enter the entrance exams well prepared and can perform at their best,” Rector Sausgruber points out.
