WU joins nationwide university campaign day with a video message

April 21 marks Austria’s first nationwide campaign day for universities, held on the occasion of the United Nations’ World Creativity and Innovation Day. Under the hashtag #ALLESUNI, Austria’s public universities are turning the spotlight on their contributions to research, the economy, and society, sending a clear message to draw attention to the important role of well-resourced universities. 

WU video featuring high-profile business leaders 

WU participates in this initiative with a video featuring former WU Managers of the Year and Rector Rupert Sausgruber. In the video, Georg Kapsch, Patricia Neumann, Anette Klinger, and Christopher Schläffer explain how universities drive innovation, promote social mobility through affordable high-quality education, and the crucial role universities play, as strong partners of businesses and society, in making the Austrian business ecosystem fit for the future. 

Every euro of government funding pays off many times over 

In the video, Rector Rupert Sausgruber emphasizes that investments in universities pay off many times over: Especially in light of demographic shifts and profound technological changes, well-resourced public universities are crucial for training sufficient numbers of highly qualified professionals and securing long-term prosperity. 

“The taxes paid by future alumni will far exceed the government spending required for their education. That’s why every euro invested in public universities pays off for our government and for our society,” Sausgruber says. 

A joint message calling for strong universities 

The video will be released on WU’s communication channels as part of the campaign day, underscoring the message Austria’s universities: Strong, well-resourced universities are essential for driving innovation, competitiveness, and social progress.
