Exchange semester Doctorate/PhD
As a doctoral or PhD student at WU, you are eligible for the doctoral-level Erasmus+ exchange programs administered by the International Office.

Exchange semester for WU doctoral students
Doctoral and PhD students at WU can opt to spend an exchange semester at one of WU’s partner universities.
For a stay at a partner university, you can apply for an Erasmus+ grant, a WU mbility grant, or SEMP.
Application documents:
Proof of re-registration, transcript of your doctoral/PhD program, diploma of undergraduate program entitling you to study at the doctoral level at WU
Curriculum vitae
Letter of motivation with a detailed description of your research intentions abroad
By the time of application, the research proposal and the supervisor's approval of the research proposal must already be submitted to the Doctoral Office
Letter of recommendation from your thesis supervisor
If applicable, proposed supervising professor at the host university
Attention: If you are employed at WU, you will need an approval of the personnel office.

Due to the high administrative effort, please schedule at least six months between your application and the beginning of your planned exchange!
NEURUS - dissertation abroad (Regional and Urban Studies)
Doctoral/PhD students working in relevant fields are eligible for a NEURUS grant allowing them to work on their dissertation at an international partner universities abroad.
NEURUS (Network of European and US Regional and Urban Studies) is a network offering a structured program with exchange opportunities and academic supervision at selected US universities.
The one-year program consists of one semester at WU and an other semester at the partner university abroad.

Mobility grants for doctoral/PhD candidates (short term stay)
Mobility grants for doctoral/PhD candidates are intended to support travel expenses and encourage mobility. Depending on the yearly budget, an amount of up to €2000 per applicant may be granted.
The mobility grant is managed by the Doctoral Office.
