Permitted and Prohibited Aids During Exams

Your instructors will let you know in advance which aids are permitted for their exams (e.g. calculators without text storage function, dictionaries). You will also find this information in the syllabus of your courses, in the course catalog (VVZ).

The following items are not permitted during any exam:

  • Any electronic devices, especially cell phones, cameras, laptops, tablets, and smart glasses

  • Smartwatches

  • Watches of any kind, including alarm clocks and stopwatches

  • Hearing protection such as earplugs, earbuds, or headphones

  • Office supplies, such as correction fluid, erasers, highlighters, or rulers

Before the start of your exam, any prohibited aids must be switched off (where applicable) and stored in a bag.

Ears must remain visible during exams; therefore, long hair must be tied back.

What can I do if I forgot my calculator?

Am I allowed to wear religious head coverings?

What can I do if I am particularly sensitive to noise and would like to use hearing protection?

What should I do if I require a medical device (e.g. hearing aid, smartwatch for diabetes monitoring)?

What happens if I am caught using a prohibited aid?
